Cake, pastries and dessert near Bang Tao and Surin: Basque cheesecake, croissants, pancakes
Two kinds of sweet at NIMA Cafe in Cherngtalay. The bakery counter changes every day — croissants, Danish, muffins, donuts, brownies, cinnamon twists and cakes from 39 ฿, including a Basque burnt cheesecake at 149 ฿ when it's in. And pancakes — 189 ฿ classic or 199 ฿ chocolate — made to order and always available. Open 10:00–19:00, closed every Thursday. About 1 km from Surin Beach and 2 km from Bang Tao.
What's on the bakery counter?
First, the honest bit: the selection changes every day. What's listed below is the full range that goes on the counter; on any given day some of it will be there and some won't. If you're making a special trip for one particular cake — the Basque cheesecake, say — call ahead on +66 98 067 2795 before you drive over.
- Almond croissant — 139 ฿
- Chocolate croissant — 89–119 ฿
- Croissant Zebra — 49 ฿
- Danish pineapple — 89 ฿
- Muffins: banana, blueberry, double chocolate — 79 ฿
- Cinnamon twists — 39 ฿ · brownie — 39 ฿
- Donuts: glaze, green tea, chocolate — 59–69 ฿
- Basque burnt cheesecake — 149 ฿
- Orange cake — 189 ฿ · chocolate cake — 229 ฿
Everything we serve is halal. The bakery is no exception.
The cheesecake question
If you haven't had Basque burnt cheesecake before: the style is baked hot so the top goes dark — almost burnt — while the middle stays soft and creamy, with no biscuit base. It tends to be less sweet than it looks. Ours is 149 ฿, and like everything on the counter it isn't there every day, so check before you come.
The two whole-cake options on the list are the chocolate cake (229 ฿) and the orange cake (189 ฿). The orange one is the fruitier pick next to an afternoon coffee; the chocolate one is for when the day calls for chocolate, which in our experience is most days.

Croissants: which one to get
The almond croissant (139 ฿) is the richest of the three. The chocolate croissant runs 89–119 ฿ depending on the version that day. If you just want something small and quick, the Croissant Zebra at 49 ฿ is the lightest option.
Pastries travel well in a bag. Cream and chocolate in the Phuket midday heat, slightly less so — keep that in mind if you're heading straight to the beach.
Pancakes: the dessert that is always there
Whatever is or isn't on the counter that day, pancakes are always on the menu — made to order until 19:00. Three fluffy pancakes, two ways:
- Classic — 189 ฿: berries or banana, maple syrup, butter.
- Chocolate — 199 ฿: warm chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, cocoa dust.
Three pancakes share easily between two after a late lunch. The chocolate version is the one that photographs well and disappears faster at the table. Order both if you can't decide — we won't judge.

What to drink with something sweet
Sweet needs bitter. A hot Americano (89 ฿) or a doppio espresso (79 ฿) cuts through the cheesecake cleanly. A matcha latte (99 ฿) or clear matcha (99 ฿) works well with croissants — the earthiness balances the butter. A pot of Twinings tea (99 ฿, refillable, Earl Grey or English Breakfast) if you're settling in for a while. The Snowy Berry Matcha (139 ฿) — strawberry sauce, milk and matcha in layers — is the one to order alongside the chocolate pancakes if you want everything to match.
The full drinks list, with the signature drinks and the matcha bar, is in our coffee and matcha guide. Or browse the full menu with photos before you come in.
Can you take cake away?
Yes — everything on the counter is easy to box up, and the cafe is a natural stop between Surin Beach and Bang Tao on Srisoonthon Road. Call +66 98 067 2795 to check what's on the counter and to order ahead so it's ready when you arrive. Delivery is coming soon but not yet available; for now it's walk-in or call-ahead takeaway only.
For beach-run options more broadly — something savoury, something to eat in the car — see the quick bites and takeaway guide.
Is there anything else sweet on the menu?
The bakery counter and the pancakes are the dedicated sweet section. That said, the oatmeal with berries (169 ฿) — creamy oats, strawberries, banana and honey — sits somewhere between breakfast and dessert, and is a perfectly reasonable thing to order at 15:00. The full breakfast menu runs all day until 19:00, which means you can do a sweet brunch at any hour. See the all-day breakfast guide for the rest of that story.
