A halal full English breakfast in Phuket: what is on the plate, and how it differs

Short answer

A halal full English keeps everything that makes the plate — eggs, beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, hash brown, toast — and swaps the bacon and sausages for chicken. Ours is 279 ฿: two eggs, chicken sausages, chicken bacon, baked beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, a hash brown and toast. Everything we serve is halal, breakfast runs all day from 10:00 to 19:00, and we are closed every Thursday.

What is in a full English, and what changes when it is halal?

The British fry-up is a fixed cast: eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, toast, usually a hash brown. The traditional version uses meats that many Muslim travellers cannot eat, which is exactly why they tend to skip the dish abroad — or end up with a plate of beans and eggs and a polite apology from the kitchen.

The halal version just replaces the two meats. At NIMA that means chicken bacon and chicken sausages; the rest of the plate stays the same. Nothing needs to be removed. Nothing needs a special request. You order, it arrives, it looks exactly like the picture.

What does chicken bacon actually taste like?

Leaner. Salty and smoky, thinner, and it crisps differently from what you might remember — less fat rendering out, more of a chew at the edges. If you grew up on the original you will notice. Most people stop noticing by the second bite, because the plate works as a whole: yolk breaking into beans, toast underneath, a little salt from the bacon, a little sweetness from the tomato.

Chicken sausages are milder than a British banger — less fennel, less pepper, a cleaner flavour. Different, not lesser. On a plate this busy, they do their job.

Every component, quickly

Two eggs. Chicken sausages. Chicken bacon. Baked beans. Grilled tomato. Mushrooms. A hash brown. Toast. That is the 279 ฿ plate, nothing hidden, nothing optional — it all comes together.

If you want more: an extra fried egg is +20 ฿ and you can add fries for +40 ฿. Some people order both. We do not judge.

Who is it for?

Muslim travellers and families who want the classic plate without having to ask what is in the sausages. Anyone who wants something that tastes like home after a week of rice and chili. And anyone who is simply very hungry — it is the biggest plate on our breakfast list.

It is also, quietly, a good choice for mixed groups. One person orders the English, another orders the shakshuka at 269 ฿, someone else takes an omelette at 169 ฿ — the whole table eats at the same time, from the same halal kitchen, without anyone having to negotiate a separate restaurant.

Pot of hot Twinings tea served at NIMA Cafe in Cherngtalay, Phuket
Hot Tea, 99 ฿ — Twinings English Breakfast or Earl Grey, 400 ml pot, refillable.

What do you drink with it?

Honestly, tea. We serve a pot of Twinings English Breakfast or Earl Grey, 400 ml and refillable, for 99 ฿. It is the obvious pairing and it works. If you would rather have coffee, a flat white is 99 ฿, a hot cappuccino 89 ฿, a piccolo 89 ฿ if you want something short and strong, and an iced latte 119 ฿ for the heat outside. Fresh orange juice, squeezed to order, is 119 ฿.

The full drinks guide covers everything on the menu if you want to explore beyond coffee and tea — the signature coconut coffee at 139 ฿ is worth a look.

Not that hungry? Other halal breakfasts on the list

The English is the biggest plate we do for breakfast. If you want something lighter, or just different:

How do you check halal at other places?

Short version: ask what the bacon and sausages are made of, and do not assume. A "breakfast" listing on a Phuket menu does not always say what meat is used. Some places list "turkey bacon" or "beef sausages" — worth confirming those too, because cross-contamination in a shared kitchen is a separate question from the ingredient list.

There is a longer guide to halal food on Phuket's west coast — what to ask, what usually needs checking in Thai cooking, and what to look for on menus around Surin and Bang Tao. At NIMA, everything we serve is halal. One kitchen, one standard, no exceptions by dish.

When can you get it, and how far is it?

All day. The kitchen runs from 10:00 to 19:00, so a full English at half past four after the beach is a perfectly reasonable order. We are not the place for a 7am breakfast before an early boat — we open at ten. And we are closed every Thursday.

We are on Srisoonthon Road in Cherngtalay: 1 km from Surin Beach, 2 km from Bang Tao Beach, Boat Avenue and Laguna Phuket, 3 km from Kamala. Coming from Surin, head inland and we are on your left after roughly a kilometre. From Bang Tao or Laguna, head south on Srisoonthon Road towards the Surin junction — about five minutes by car, taxi or Grab. Free street parking at the door; scooters at the entrance.
